How to Scent Wool Dryer Balls with Essential Oils

Wool dryer balls soften laundry and cut drying time. Add a few drops of Essential Oil and your wash comes out lightly scented, no fabric softener needed.

Takes 2 minutes, plus 1 hour to soak in

What you’ll need

Method

  1. Add 2–3 drops of 100% Pure Essential Oils to each of your Organic Wool Dryer Balls.
  2. Leave them for at least an hour, or overnight, so the oil soaks right into the wool.
  3. Put 3–4 balls in the tumble dryer with your wet laundry, or 6 for a big load.
  4. Dry on a low or medium heat.
  5. Add fresh drops every few loads, when the scent fades.

Softening and lightly scenting towels, bedding and everyday laundry in the tumble dryer, in place of fabric softener and dryer sheets.

Dryer balls bounce between your clothes and keep them apart, so warm air reaches more of the fabric. Laundry dries faster and comes out softer, without the coating that fabric softener leaves.

Wool holds the Essential Oil and releases it slowly as it warms up, giving a light scent rather than a perfume.

Wet oil on clothes: Let the oil soak in fully before use. Fresh oil can leave a mark on light fabrics.

High heat: Use a low or medium heat setting with scented balls.

Too many drops: More oil doesn’t mean more scent on your clothes; it just stays in the balls. Stick to 2–3 drops.

Keep dryer balls in a cotton bag or jar between loads. They last for hundreds of loads.

Essential Oils are flammable, so always let them soak in completely and never use the highest heat setting.

Leave the oils out for babies’ clothes and if anyone in the house is sensitive to scents.

B&M Pro-Tip 1:

Lavender for bedding, Lemon or Eucalyptus for towels. Pick one oil per load so the scents don’t clash.

B&M Pro-Tip 2:

Dryer balls getting loose and fluffy? Put them through a hot wash and a hot tumble dry (without oil). The heat tightens the wool again.
