Simply place three balls in the dryer for a small load of laundry and six for a larger or heavier load. Be sure to keep an eye on the cycle, as drying times may be shorter using Wool Dryer Balls. Do not overload the dryer when using the balls. For the balls to be effective, they need enough room to move around and get between laundry items. While the primary job of these balls is to fluff up and dry your laundry, there are plenty more clever ways you can put them to use or give them a second life.
Infuse your laundry with fresh scents:
Our Organic Wool Dryer Balls and Essential Oils make a perfect duo! Just add 2-3 drops of your chosen Essential Oil to each Dryer Ball for a light, fresh fragrance. If you prefer a more pronounced scent, you can use up to 5-6 drops, but starting with a smaller amount is often best. Allow the Dryer Balls to soak in the oil and dry completely before placing them into the dryer. Put the Dryer Balls in with your laundry and run your usual drying cycle. When you notice the scent fading, simply “refresh” your Dryer Balls with an extra 1-2 drops of Essential Oil.
Repurpose Wool Dryer Balls once no longer usable:
Take your old Dryer Balls and infuse them with Essential Oils known for their bug- and insect-repelling properties, like Lavender, Lemongrass Cinnamon or Peppermint Oil. Then, place these scented balls near the entry points of your home or in those little nooks and crannies where spiders might spin their webs and other insects might hide. It’s a simple and effective way to make your home less inviting to unwanted guests!
Or add a few drops of Essential Oils onto your old Dryer Balls and place them in different areas of the house that could benefit from some freshening up or use them in closets to freshen up towels, linens, or clothes.
To clean the Organic Wool Dryer Balls, simply wipe them with a damp cloth, adding a bit of soap or sanitiser if needed. Alternatively, hand wash them in lukewarm soapy water. Occasionally, give them a quick trim to remove any fuzz, blemishes, or stray threads.
If they start to look worn out or aren’t drying as well, put them in the washer (around every 100 loads). Use a gentle cycle with hot water along with your clothes. This will clear away any lint and fibre buildup, and rehydrate the wool, helping them soak up moisture better. Once washed, dry them in the tumble dryer on high heat until fully dry before using them again.
Dryer Balls should be replaced once they start falling apart (usually after 1000 loads). Keep an eye out for a scruffy look or shedding. You might spot bits of wool clinging to your clothes when you take them out.
When they’ re no longer usable, simply compost them or repurpose them.
